“NATURAL Dis-Tinction, Un-Natural Selection” was the title of Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2009 show this evening and we walked in to take our seats beside a zoo of life-size stuffed animals - elephant, leopard, hippo, rhinoceros, tiger, llama, zebra, polar bear, stag and friends.
Behind them an illuminated globe lit up the warehouse we were in, in the 19th La Villette - and as the first models walked out from among the four legged creatures, McQueen’s initial inspiration - the evolution of man - became a clear visual message.

Bloomingdales goes international: Dubai 2010

Macy’s, Inc. announced that the first Bloomingdale’s stores outside of the United States will open in February 2010 in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The stores are part of a strategic relationship with Al Tayer Group LLC, a leading United Arab Emirates-based company with diversified businesses. Two Bloomingdale’s locations - a three-level apparel and accessories store of about 146,000 square feet and a one-level home store of about 54,000 square feet - will anchor The Dubai Mall, which will be one of the world’s largest shopping centers when completed in late 2008.

The heels have become taller with each season, and the inches are apparently taking their toll. Models at the preview shows in Milan tripped, slipped and — in the case of one model wearing ankle-strapped high-heels at Prada — toppled over.
